You want to achieve success in life, don't you? Yet do you sometimes feel as though, despite your best efforts, that you are not reaping the level of success you desire?

If yes, then it's time to identify and conquer your enemy, which is sabotaging your success. You may even be asking yourself.

"Why am I not achieving success?"

This is the wrong question to ask because it actually turns your focus away from what you want to achieve - success. However, if you asked instead,

"How can I achieve success?"

One answer would be,

"Conquer your enemy."

And, if you're puzzled as to what or who is your enemy the answer is simple. Your enemy is really your 'Inner Me'. Your inner self is the key to your success. It is the rudder which directs you in life and pre-determines your level of success.

If you are not getting the results you desire then work on your 'Inner Me' until you consistently start to achieve the goals which you set yourself. And the work doesn't stop there, for once you start to achieve success your vision will expand and the new goals you set will be even more challenging and more demanding. You will therefore have to keep working on your 'Inner Me' to ensure that it is in harmony with your expanded vision.

Your 'Inner Me' is really your mind and it is your mind and your thoughts that are creating your results. The reality of life is that your inner world is creating your outer world.

"Mind is the Master power that moulds and makes, And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes The Tool of Thought, and shaping what he wills, Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills; he thinks in secret and it comes to pass: Environment is but his looking-glass."
James Allen, "As a Man Thinketh"

So, if you don't like your current reality start to work on the enemy within if you want to create lasting change.

The trouble is people are often reluctant to do what it takes to make positive change. I often hear that working on your inner self or working on your mind is hard. Well, it really is no harder than remaining in your current position.

This may sound harsh but you can either choose results or excuses. You can't have both. Doing the work on your 'Inner Me' will pay huge dividends. When you do the work on you, your actions will, as a consequence, change and the intent and power behind your actions will also change. This will ultimately lead to changes in your results. I say "ultimately" because the changes may not be immediately apparent.

You will have to be patient, remain focused and persistent in your efforts. Often it will be when you are pushed to your limits that success will come knocking at your door.

"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, never give up then, for that is just the time that the tide will turn."
Harriet Beecher Stowe

However, conquering your 'Inner Me' is like fighting an opponent you cannot see. I am reminded of one of Jean Claude Van Damme's films, "Kickboxer", where he was temporarily rendered blind during a fight.

At first, he lashes out wildly and in panic but then he calms himself and he starts to use his inner resources. He starts to draw upon his other senses. He overcomes his panic, his fear, his opponent and his enemy. Or, should I say, his 'Inner Me'

Similarly, you have deep within, vast treasure troves of resources. They may be a little stiff from disuse at the moment but with practice you can make them flexible again. For instance, your intellectual facilities which are your:

~ Memory,
~ Perception,
~ Imagination,
~ Will Power,
~ Intuition, and
~ Ability to Reason.

These will serve you well, as long as you put them to use on a regular basis.

Memory

Your memory will help you to quickly recall detailed information you need to make timely decisions.

"The existence of forgetting has never been proved. We only know that some things don't come to mind when we want them."
Friedrich Nietzsche

Perception

Your perception will allow you to see a situation from multiple perspectives thereby giving you a distinct advantage in being able to find solutions to the challenges you face.

"The reality of life is that your perceptions - right or wrong - influence everything else you do. When you get a proper perspective of your perceptions, you may be surprised how many other things fall into place."
Roger Birkman

Imagination

Your imagination will allow you to see things as you wish them to be and not necessarily as they are. This is the first step in re-creating your world.

"Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions."
Albert Einstein

Will Power

Your will power will give you the strength to be persistent and to hold onto to your vision.

"You may fetter my leg, but Zeus himself cannot get the better of my free will."
Epictetus

Intuition

Your intuition will draw upon information that you are not consciously aware of and instinctively guide you through the darkest corridors.

"Intuition is the clear conception of the whole at once."
Johann Kaspar Lavater

Ability to Reason

Your ability to reason will demonstrate to you how and why you must be successful.

"There is only one reason for an individual to side-step to the useless side: the fear of a defeat on the useful side."
Alfred Adler

Develop these intellectual faculties and you will strengthen your 'Inner Me', conquer your enemy and achieve great success in life.

Trust Your Intuition

A friend of mine told me that she was suffering from a chronic illness for which the doctors had said she would have to take medication for the rest of her life. She wasn't at all happy about that prospect. I asked her if she had considered visualisation as a form of complementary therapy.

I wasn't proposing that she replace her medication with this technique, although there are many documented cases of how powerful visualisation is in medical situations, but even as I brought the subject up my conscious mind was saying "Visualisation! She tells you she has a serious illness and you talk to her about visualisation." Still, I realised that it was my intuitive self that was guiding me and so I decided to go along with the flow.

There are numerous ways in which one can use visualisation but at the time I was consciously thinking about one particular approach. Yet as I spoke I heard something different come out of my mouth. I let my inner-self do the talking. I spoke to her about an approach that involved using colour.

I asked her to visualise a silk scarf of any colour that took her fancy. I then said to her:

"Imagine this scarf is floating over you. It drapes itself fully over your body and merges with it, seemingly melting into your skin. It feels soft, soothing and calming. As the colour infuses your body feel its power healing your damaged cells and restoring you to full health."

Afterwards, she told me that on another occasion when she was gravely ill she imagined a little man inside her spreading healing colour around her sick body. I was stunned. Somehow my subconscious mind knew what to say, what would resonate with her. I am glad I allowed my intuition to guide my tongue for as Kim Basinger says:

"I feel there are two people inside me - me and my intuition. If I go against her, she'll screw me every time, and if I follow her, we get along quite nicely."

Our inner-self does not have to rely solely on our senses, it has the ability to pick up and process information that we may not otherwise have access to.

Trust your inner-wisdom and the power of your intuition. Doing so can open up a whole new world and lead you to revelations that will help to propel you through life's challenges.

The Importance of Intuition and Trust in Personal and Business Success, Part II

Intuition and trust go hand in hand. You cannot exercise your intuition without also using trust and when you trust you often have to rely on your instinct or intuition. There are many situations that don't allow the time for other mechanisms for building trust to come into effect. Sometimes we have to make a snap decision relating to matters that can involve large sums or money or even our well being.

Legendary stock market investor, Warren Buffett and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, provides a great example of the value of trust in business success. Company mergers can be complex and drawn out affairs involving an army of lawyers, accountants and the like. It can sometimes take up to a year to finalise details. However, a few years ago Berkshire Hathaway bought McLane Distribution Company from Wal-Mart and following a 2-hour meeting managed to finalise the acquisition in just under a month. We're not talking about trifling sums here either; this was a $23 billion transaction.

Warren Buffett did no due diligence. Both companies were public and therefore their records could be scrutinised by the public. Warren Buffett said, "I trusted Wal-Mart, I trusted the people I worked with. I knew everything would be in exactly the order that they said it would be, and it was." He said, "
We did no due diligence."

Can you see the advantages of being able to operate under such an umbrella of complete trust? As Indira Gandhi said,

"You can't shake hands with a clenched fist."

A word of caution - this deal may have been lightning fast but this relationship was gradually built up over time. Yet building trust is something we are all capable of and need to develop if we are to be successful in building any sort of relationships whether personal or business.

Here are five simple ways you can create trust in your relationships:

1. Be open, transparent and scrupulously honest in your business dealings;
2. Stick to your word - be known as someone who is completely reliable;
3. Under-promise and over deliver - people love to receive unexpected bonuses;
4. Refrain from gossiping about your colleagues or business partners, it is unprofessional and can seriously backfire; and
5. Take responsibility for your actions especially when things go wrong - similarly give credit where credit is due.

Trust and intuition are inexorably linked. To be able to tap into your intuition you have to learn how to trust yourself and as Cardinal de Retz said:

"A man who doesn't trust himself can never really trust anyone else."

The Importance of Intuition and Trust in Personal and Business Success, Part I

I recently had to make a decision on a business deal. Looking purely at the numbers my decision should have been straightforward, especially since I'm usually quick at making decisions. Yet I hesitated. You see my intuition or my gut feeling was not in agreement with the outwardly, more logical decision that analysis of the numbers was leading me to.

Offer A was more lucrative but I felt that the person making it would change their mind at a moment's notice leaving me high and dry. I had more trust and respect for the person making Offer B. I felt that they would behave in a more trustworthy manner and that it would be a pleasure doing business with them. Through a mix-up in communications, although I didn't know it at the time, while I was considering these two offers, the person making Offer A had already rescinded their offer. My intuition had been proved right. Fortunately, it was early enough in the deal that no irreparable damage had been done.

Intuition is often viewed more as a feminine trait but men use their intuition as well. Best-selling author, Marc Allen, reflecting on one of his mistakes regarding a business deal that went sour, said in a recent teleseminar,

"My first gut impression when I looked in his eyes was "Don't trust this guy". That was my initial intuitive impression and ever since then I've never denied that intuitive impression. I always wanted to meet people face-to-face. Just look in their eyes and you get a lot of intuitive information."

Allen's intuition was proved right when the company that this guy was brought in to manage went belly-up.

Some people underestimate the power of their intuition but it is not just a whim. Intuitive thought or a hunch is often the result of, among other things, our senses taking in and analysing a mass of data and helping us to formulate an opinion on the subject and assess a situation in a uniquely insightful way manner.

So as Dr Joyce Brothers said,

"Trust your hunches. They're usually based on facts filed away just below the conscious level."

However, like most things intuition is a skill that must be honed so here are five ways to improve your powers of intuition:

1. Accept that intuition exists and is a gift that can help you to reach your goals faster;
2. Discover what fears you have that prevent you from using your intuition fully;
3. Follow your intuition - when you hear that quiet voice, when you have inspired thought, ACT on it;
4. Practice extreme self-care - take care of mind, body and spirit by exercising regularly, eating healthily, drinking plenty of fresh water and getting adequate rest this will make you more receptive to intuitive thoughts; and
5. Keep a journal - you may be able to see patterns that emerge when you have intuitive thought.
