Success Secret - Eat a Live Frog

This success secret - "eat a live frog" - you will have undoubtedly heard about before though perhaps not expressed in this way. This is one of Brian Tracy's expressions and I love the visual imagery that eating a frog conjures up.

Frog's legs may be a delicacy in some parts of the world but one which I'm happy to forgo. So what exactly is this frog thing and success?

Eating a live frog is your biggest task. It is often the task that you hate or fear doing. And, even if your feelings are not so extreme you certainly experience a measure of discomfort just from thinking about doing this particular task.

Yet, when you do get around to doing it you'll often find that this task that you've been dreading doing so much was not so bad after all. Unfortunately, because you procrastinated you may find that opportunities available to you had you acted without hesitation, are no longer available to you. Your reluctance to eat your live frog will have an adverse impact on the level of success you will achieve.

As Brian Tracy says:

"The primary difference between a successful person and a failure comes down to a very simple thing. Successful people have the discipline to get up and get started on their most important task and they stay with it until it is done. Unsuccessful people don't have the discipline to do that so they always have to be supervised and managed by people who will make them do it…and of course pay them much less because supervision costs money.

"Whereas there are only about 2% of people in our society who can plan their day, pick the most important task and work solely on that until it is finished. And, these people are the highest earners, most successful, fastest promoted and highest paid."


If you are an employee, look around your workplace and you will see that this is generally true. If you are an entrepreneur or an aspiring entrepreneur then examine case studies of other entrepreneurs and you will see that this is the maxim by which they live their lives and conduct their business. This is what makes them a success. To quote Brian Tracy again:

"The bottom line is that successful people do more important things. They do them more often and they get better and better at them."

So starting today, eat a live frog. It gets easier each time you do it and you could grow to like this 'exotic' meal.

What Are You Not Seeing?

This is a question that one of my mentors, Alex Mandossian (Virtual Book Tour Secrets) says we should ask of ourselves everyday for reasons which I'll explain later. I have been asking myself this question on a regular basis.

However, I was reminded about this because of some passport photos. My passport was stolen recently and I applied for a new one. Unfortunately, my application was delayed because as a letter from the Passport Office said:

"I had omitted to enclose two recent photographs."

When I read the letter I have to admit I was pretty frustrated. Here in the UK we have a system for passport applications called "Check and Send". You can pay an additional fee for an authorised Post Office to check your passport application and make sure that everything has been correctly completed and that all the relevant enclosures had been included before sending off your passport. It costs a bit extra but the peace of mind is worth it. I used the check and send system.

At the post office my photos were duly checked to ensure that they complied with the regulations and my application, photos and supporting documents were placed in a transparent plastic bag which was sealed before my eyes. Now you can understand my frustration. How could they not have received my photos?

When I contacted the passport office I was informed that they had received my photos but that the photos I sent were identical to those on my now cancelled passport. I was told I had to send photos that had been taken within the past month.

The thing is the photos I sent had been taken this month. They were similar to the photos I had before after all the subject was the same but they were not identical. I had dressed similarly for both photos but there were several noticeable differences. For instance, I was wearing different earrings in the photos. I pointed out the differences and was relieved to hear that my application could now be processed. Phew!

I hope you can see the point of this story. All too often we look at things with really seeing. We often see what we want to see. Sometimes we are confronted with situations and we jump to conclusions without truly evaluating the evidence.

Sometimes there are small changes that we can make to our lives and or our business that can have a dramatic effect to our results but we are too close to the situation or too caught up with our own drama to see what those things are. This is where a coach can help because a coach has a less cluttered view and does not have the same level of emotional involvement as you do in that particular situation.

This is not to say that a coach does not care about their clients and the results they achieve. However, if a coach were to get swept up in the emotional currents of their clients' situations then they would lose their objectivity and their effectiveness as a coach would be compromised.

So what is it that you're not seeing? How could you improve your viewpoint? Consider what's in your 'picture' that you are not seeing and consider what is missing from your 'picture'.

Focusing on these things will:

~ Considerably enhance your point of view,

~ Enable you to respond to situations rather than react, and

~ Immeasurably improve your results.

You Chance to Give Back to our World's Children - Special Appeal for World Teacher Aid

In March, many of you responded to my appeal to help save 5 million acres of virgin rain forest in Ecuador. Thank you for your positive response.

Now I'm asking that you support a new appeal to raise funds for a special charity. This appeal is another World Internet Summit challenge and the person who is launching this current appeal is none other than my mentor and teacher, Armand Morin.

In fact, this current fundraising appeal involves another of my mentors - Stu McLaren because the appeal is raising funds for a charitable organisation that he and his wife, Amy, founded - "World Teacher Aid".

Indiana Jones - the Ultimate Goal Achiever

The Indiana Jones films are great adventure films and I couldn't resist watching "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" last night. However, while the films are fun to watch there are many lessons to be learnt about goal achievement as well.

1. Indiana follows his passion

Indiana is passionate about archaeology and this is what drives him. Those who have achieved great success all believe vehemently in the importance of following your passion and doing what you love. It is only by doing this that you will continue to have the motivation to persevere in spite of enormous odds.

It is only by following your passion that you will have the energy and drive to keep going even though the journey towards your goal may be an arduous one and at times you may become weak.

"The key that unlocks energy is desire. It's also the key to a long and interesting life. If we expect to create any drive, any real force within ourselves, we have to get excited."

2. Indiana has very clear values

Indiana's values made it easy for him for him to make decisions and take action. Great goal achievers are great decision-makers and they take action. Too often people do not achieve the level of success they desire because they spend too much time deciding what to do and too little time actually doing anything.

True some things require careful deliberation but in many cases, especially when it comes to the day-to-day activities that will help you to make progress towards your goal you have to learn how to quickly weigh up a situation and make the best decision there and then on how to move forwards.

Having clear values and clearly defined goals will go a long way in helping you to make those timely decisions.

"Your only purpose in life is to make choices. Once the choice is made, the whole universe moves to bring into fruition that which you chose."

3. Indiana confronts his fears

One of the endearing qualities about Indiana is that he is very human. He too has his fears, for instance, he hates snakes. Yet he does not let his fears stand in the way of achieving his goal.

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear."

When you set yourself challenging goals, at some point you will come up against something that you fear. The trouble is what you fear may not be tangible. It may be a limiting or negative belief such as the fear of failure or the fear of success.

However, limiting or negative beliefs can stop you dead in your tracks if you do not develop techniques and strategies to clear yourself of these limiting and negative beliefs. The good thing is that the more you practice these clearing techniques the easier it will become to overcome your fears.

"When you face your fear, most of the time you will discover that it was not really such a big threat after all. We all need some form of deeply rooted, powerful motivation - it empowers us to overcome obstacles so we can live our dreams."

But back to "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" - my favourite bit in the movie is Indiana Jones' "leap of faith". There's just something about that scene. It is such a great visual representation of what we all must go through to achieve anything of significance.

Indiana has to cross a huge chasm in order to reach his goal - the Holy Grail and yet there is seemingly no way across the chasm. He murmurs to himself,

"It's impossible. Nobody can jump this."

And then the realisation dawns on him that he needs to take a "leap of faith". Earlier in the film his father thought he that his son had died as he fell over a cliff and he bemoaned that the fact that he had not told him anything. Now as he lay grievously injured it was almost as if there was a telepathic connection between father and son. He murmurs,

"You must believe, boy. You must believe."

Indiana takes a deep breath and steps into the void. Instead of falling he finds his feet firmly planted on a bridge - narrow - but a solid bridge nonetheless that spans the width of the seemingly bottomless chasm.

You have to trust and believe in the unknown and the unseen. When you set a goal it first exists only exists in your mind's eye but this is perhaps the most important step in your goal achievement process.

"Faith is to believe what you do not yet see; the reward for this faith is to see what you believe."

The philosopher, William James also said that there is a law in psychology that if you form a picture in your mind of what you would like to be and hold that picture there long enough, you will achieve what you are thinking. The challenge is to hold onto your vision, to keep your faith.

One of my mentors, Dr Topher Morrison, favourite sayings is to make life a magnificent adventure. I'm sure Indiana Jones would agree. So as you go about your tasks today be bold, be adventurous and remember:

"Take a chance! All life is a chance. The person who goes the furthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare."

Like Dr Joe Vitale, Robert Shemin was also once broke. His current multi-millionaire status is proof once again that if your current financial position is not as you would like it then you can reverse your fortunes. Your past does not have to equate to your future.

However, becoming wealthy first starts in the mind and we generally have a lot of negative conditioning to overcome because most people actually have negative thoughts about money. Such as:

~ I can't afford it.
~ I don't deserve it.
~ Money is hard to come by.
~ Money is the root of all evil.
~ Money doesn't grow on trees.


And I sure you can add several more of your own negative expressions regarding money. It is thoughts like this that contradict our desire to actually have money.

"When you no longer split your flow of energy with contradictory thoughts, you will know your power."

Many of us have also lost sight of what money actually is. I often use images of dollars bills to represent money but notes and coins are just convenient ways to 'trade'. Bills and coins may represent money but they are not money. Money is simply energy.

When you understand that you will see therefore that in order to attract more money you have to be able to raise your energy so that it resonates with the new level of wealth you're seeking.

McDonald's and Subliminal Advertising? Surely Not! You be the Judge

Last year McDonald's was accused of using subliminal advertising in one of the Food Network's most popular programs - Iron Chef.

The Food Network said it was a mistake and McDonald's, one of the sponsors of the program, said that it does not use subliminal advertising. You be the judge. Watch the YouTube video below.

Now, just what are subliminal messages and why would an advertiser want to use them in the first place.

The word subliminal is derived from two Latin words - "sub" meaning under and "limen" meaning threshold. Hence subliminal literally means "below threshold" and subliminal messages are messages which are below the threshold of consciousness.

Subliminal messages are programmed or engineered in such a way as to by-pass your analytical, decision-making conscious mind. They directly target your more easily influenced and receptive sub-conscious mind.

Now, don't think for a minute that because the sub-conscious mind is easily influenced that it is weak - quite the opposite. It is all-powerful and it drives everything we do. Are you beginning to see the importance and potential impact of subliminal messages?

The use of subliminal messages was actually banned by the US Government in the 70s because of reports that they gave "individuals too much of an edge".

Subliminal messages can be in video or audio form. An image flashed on a screen for a fraction of a second will not be interpreted by the conscious mind but the sub-conscious mind processes millions of bits of data each second and the information contained within that quick flash is interpreted and recorded. This process repeated over time, even a short period of time can lead to behavioural changes as the following example illustrates.

Dr James Vicary conducted an experiment in a cinema. It involved flashing "I want popcorn" and "Drink more coke" on a movie screen for just 100-milliseconds.

No one in the movie audience consciously saw the messages but popcorn sales went up by 57.8% and coke sales increased by 18.1%. How do you like dem numbers?

We all use persuasion techniques. It's necessary for our personal and professional survival there is a difference between persuasion and manipulation as Persuasion Expert, Dave Lakhani, points out:

"There's only one true difference between true persuasion and manipulation…it's intent. If your intent is to harm someone, if your intent is inwardly focused and you only want to do something for your own personal gain regardless of the outcome for other people, regardless of what happens to other people then, you're being manipulative.

"If, on the other hand, you help lead people to their very own best conclusion using honour, integrity, ethically and appropriately leading them that way, then they persuade themselves. You don't have to use the puppy dog close, the sharp angled close or anything else. You help people through their experience with you to come to their very own best conclusion"


I use subliminal messages all the time to enhance my own personal development. I also create customised subliminal MP3s and CDs for my coaching clients.

I'm all for the use of subliminal messages when they are used for good and when they are used with an individual's consent. But I'm against the use of subliminal messages to manipulate another individual to do what you want.

Millions probably saw the Food Network show with this particular ad but very few were probably consciously aware that they saw the ad. And, of those that did literally see red, few were probably actually aware of its true significance.

Skyline Coaching Announces New Coaching Service with Bitwine Online Coaching

Skyline Coaching is now registered with the Bitwine Online Coaching Network and so now it is easier than ever to either receive personal coaching from me or to be coached by another expert.

How Does this Service Work?

You can use one of the links in this post or simply look for the Bitwine Button on this site to contact me. There is also an option on the Bitwine homepage that will allow you do search for an advisor using certain keywords.

If you want a coaching session with me then on my Bitwine web page you will notice that there are two buttons along the right side of my "advisor profile page". The buttons are titled:

1. "Chat with Me" and,

2. "Leave a Message".


So if I'm online you can start a live chat with me immediately by clicking the "Chat with Me" button. There is no charge for starting a live chat with an advisor. However, if I'm busy or offline then you can simply leave me a message by clicking the "Leave a Message". Then I'll get back to you, via regular email, to schedule a time for your initial free consultation or to schedule a time for a paid session.

Use Your Computer to Talk to Me

In order to have an audio session with me, you will have to install the Skype software on your computer. You can download Skype by clicking te link below and following the instructions:

You will need to have at least a microphone and speakers connected to your computer. Once you are set up I can then invite you to a free voice conversation over Skype which will result in an invitation message in your chat box.

Once you click the invitation, a Skype call will be initiated. Keep your chat session open while talking over Skype! It is still useable and you need it to stay connected while you are having your coaching session.

Note - you cannot initiate a Skype call by yourself. You have to request that a Skype call be initiated.

Use Your Regular Phone to Talk to Me

In addition to using Skype you can also use your regular phone. After you contact me via Instant Messaging I can invite you to switch to a free voice conversation over a regular phone. You will see an invitation to switch to a phone conversation in the chat box, and when you click on it you will be requested to fill in your phone number.

After that, your phone will ring and you will be able to continue your consultation over the phone.Again keep your chat session open while talking over the phone! It is still usable and it is required to stay connected while you are conversing with your coach.Note - you cannot initiate a phone call by yourself. You have to request that a phone call be initiated.

Is the Service Free?

Your initial introduction with me is free. Its purpose is for you and I to make sure that we are a good fit. I offer a free introductory session up to 30 minutes. Thereafter, I either charge a fixed rate for your particular task or I charge a per-minute rate.

How Do You Pay for Your Coaching Sessions?

After your initial introductory session, if you want to continue I will ask you to pay in order to continue. A message with a payment request will appear in your chat box. If you agree to pay for the service, click on the payment request message.

You will be taken to a payment screen where you can pay either with a Paypal™ account or with any Credit Card. After you pay, I will receive notification of your payment and you may continue your session.

How Do I Leave a Review for My Coaching Session?

Success Strategy - a Lesson From the Turkish Grand Prix - Build on Your Strengths

Lewis Hamilton made a critical decision in yesterday's pole position shootout.

He later said he regretted his decision but I believe that he was being too hard on himself and that his comment was a result of him being bitterly disappointed at not gaining P1.

During Q3, Hamilton made the decision to switch to the harder Bridgestone tyre. At first, I was flabbergasted and the commentators too expressed their surprise. You see the softer Bridgestone tyres were allowing for the faster times and in Formula 1 every 1/100th of a second counts.

Plus I had flashbacks to last season to the race in China when Hamilton was left languishing on the track with badly degrading tyres which were obviously causing him to lose speed. It was said his engineers were indecisive about which type tyre to switch to.

At the time I wanted to scream at them "Any - so long as they're new!" For indeed, Hamilton outcome for that particular race would surely been a more positive one had he simply been given fresh tyres when he needed them. It was a mistake which, even today, I cannot fathom.

So back to yesterday. Despite Hamilton sentiments I don't think he made a mistake. When I understood the rationale for his decision I was impressed by his courage.

Bridgestone's medium compound tyres may have been producing the faster times but Hamilton had been struggling a little with the softer tyres. His Q2 time, by his own admission, was terrible. So for Q3, Hamilton opted for the harder tyre.

He completed the lap in a time of 1m 27.923s - a time good enough to earn him P3 and not the coveted P1 position. He was outclassed by his teammate Heikki Kovalainen (1m 27.808s - P2) and Ferrari's Felipe Massa (1m 27.617s - P1).

This is Massa's third consecutive pole position at this circuit and, on the previous two occasions, he has also gone on to capitalize on his pole position and win at the Istanbul race track. He seems to have a natural affinity for and feels very much at home here. In fact, he boldly stated:

"I own this race track."

Now, while Hamilton may have been beaten by two drivers you have to take into account the drivers he beat to get to the second line of the grid, drivers which include the reigning world champion, Kimi Raikkonen, and this season's much-improved Robert Kubica.

Who knows what may have happened had Hamilton stuck with the softer tyres? But the truth is that Hamilton drove the hell out of those harder tyres. He identified and played to his strengths.

This is something that, in the quest to achieve our own goals, we often ignore. We focus on and try to improve our weaknesses. The latter is important to a degree because some weaknesses, if not corrected, will definitely be your Achilles' heel but generally you will achieve greater success if you focus on and build your strengths.

So what are your strengths? What are you really good at? How are you maximizing your strengths?

Remember, where possible to achieve maximum success let others take care of those tasks that fall into the category of your weaknesses. Build on and play to your strengths.

The Secret to Achieving Your Goals - Commitment

The secret to achieving your goals is commitment - something which is straightforward but not always easy to do.

Writing down your goals is one act and demonstration of commitment. You are clearly saying to yourself and the universe, "This is what I want".

Plus, the simple act of writing down your goals vastly increases the chances you will actually achieve those goals? Yet, relatively few people actually write down their goals.

So what stops people from writing down their goals and, in some cases, from even speaking their goals out loud?

The answer is FEAR.

In many cases they are afraid that they will not be able to achieve what they have said they wanted and so they prefer to yearn in secret.

Eventually, even that desire fades away as they slip into a mundane and routine existence.

They were right. They didn't achieve their goals. The goal was impossible to achieve. Or was it?

While it's true that writing down your goals helps you to achieve them, it is by no means a guarantee. When people fail to achieve their goals it is often because they were not absolutely committed to achieving those goals.

Without that absolute commitment then your goals are nothing more than empty promises and false hopes. There will be no actual plan of action to achieve your goals.

However, when you truly commit yourself to achieving your goals you redefine the meaning of impossible.

Here's an example that demonstrates what it means to be absolutely committed to achieving a goal.

In 2000, Robert Allen accepted a challenge to raise $24,000 on the Internet in 24 hours. Nowadays, that would be small change to the top Internet marketers but it remains, nonetheless, a respectable challenge; even daunting for some.

This is how Robert Allen went about it. His first step was to contact his marketing and Internet mentors and this is how he presented his challenge to his mentors:

"Suppose you have a goal to make $24,000 in 24 hours using the Internet. Suppose it’s more than a goal - suppose, your life is on the line. If you succeed, you get to live. If you fail, you face the firing squad."

Do you think these mentors were committed to come up with a solution? You bet they were.

The result was that Robert Allen made $94,532.44 in 24hours and it didn't stop there, the money kept pouring in.

Remember the following if you have set yourself a tough goal to achieve:

"If you make the unconditional commitment to reach your most important goals, if the strength of your decision is sufficient, you will find the way and the power to achieve your goals."

However, there is one other secret ingredient to achieving your goals. It is desire. You have to truly want your goal. Without desire you will not be motivated to achieve your goal.

You have to have a burning passion for it otherwise you will never commit to achieving it.

To Achieve Success be Prepared to Take Risks

To achieve success you cannot afford to be risk adverse.

On Friday morning I received an email with a request for an interviewer to conduct a high-profile interview later that day for an online magazine. There was no other information but since I conduct professional interviews I said I would be willing to do the interview.

However, I didn't receive confirmation until nearly 3:00pm GMT and the interview was scheduled for 11:00am EST. In other words I would have about an hour to prepare for the interview.

My interviewee was someone who operated a multi-million dollar business, had appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, had a long line of A-list celebrity clients, had been featured in Oprah, People, USA Today and InStyle magazines and, as I later discovered, had been interviewed by Barbara Walters.

Yet somehow she had escaped my radar. I had not heard of my client before and so I had nothing to go on. Fortunately, her passion was in two areas which I identified with and had a keen interest in and that certainly helped.

Thank goodness for the Internet. I was able to do some quick research on my guest. Also, thank goodness for InstantTeleseminars because, this gave me a quick, easy and professional platform from which I could conduct the interview and have it immediately recorded and available online.

I have to admit that I was a little nervous about asking my guest to phone a bridge line. She might have considered it an imposition but she was absolutely fine about it and we had a few minutes to chat before the interview officially started.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed conducting the interview. My guest was fascinating. I felt inspired listening to her tell her story of how she created her business starting with nothing and grew it into a multi-million dollar business using the power of referrals and sheer guts.

My guest shared with me some of her dreams and aspirations and when she mentioned that she had been interviewed by Barbara Walters I didn't feel intimidated. Instead, I raised my own aspirations and thought to myself that one day I want people to say with pride:

"I was interviewed by Nickolove Lovemore."

I can't share the actual interview just yet but my point in sharing this story with you is that sometimes you have to take risks to get ahead in life.

You may think that interviewing someone is easy and in many ways it is but there is an art to conducting an intimate interview. This could have backfired which would have been embarrassing not just for myself but my client.

There are several things within the interview that I know I could have done better and I am grateful for that level of awareness. Still, I felt a deep connection with my guest. I felt jazzed just by talking to her.

So, all in all, I'm glad that on Friday I listened to my intuition and went for it. And, I was honest with my guest too, saying that I had only about an hour to prepare for the interview. It wasn't that I was trying to make excuses. It was more of an apology because the interview certainly warranted more thorough preparation.

This brings me to another point - to achieve success you also have to be prepared. I had certain structures/systems in place that enabled me to take advantage of this opportunity. I also undertake training.

Whatever your field, you will know the structures and systems that you need to have in order to be effectively prepared for your day-to-day business as well as unexpected situations that can help to advance your position. You also need to know what ongoing training you need in order to keep your blade sharp.

So when presented with a potentially exciting opportunity that could also be risky have the courage to say "yes" and figure out how you're going to make it work afterwards. Have faith in your abilities that you will find a way to turn the opportunity into a success.
